I tried to locate my iPad via iCloud. The online service worked nicely and I was able to follow my son coming home all right.

I used the sound feature provided online and now my iPad is frozen with the 'Find my iPad-alarm' dialogue button. The OK-button can be pushed but the dialogue won't disappear no matter how many times I tap the OK. Any good tips what to do?

Is resetting the pad via iTunes the only option? The pad's running iOS6.

Try these steps. The first one will probably do the trick.

When you have problems with an app it's a good idea to clear it from RAM.
Close/Clear the app: With the problem app closed, double tap on the Home button to get the multitask bar. Tap and hold on any icon in the bar until they jiggle, then tap the minus sign on the problem app. This will remove it from RAM and insure a clean start the next time you launch the app.

If that does not work try a restart,

Restart: Hold down the power button until the power off slider appears. Slide it off. When the iPad finishes shutting down, hold down the power button again until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends you restart the iPad at least once a month.
and then a reset if that does not work.

Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot. This usually takes a bit longer than a restart.

Also, check out the Find my Friends. It might suite your tracking needs better.

Thanks, but the fist one did not clear the process. I tapped all the icons away from the multitask bar, no cigar. I wasn't able to reboot either. The dialogue button kept on reappearing, no matter how many times I tapped it. So there was no chance to swipe the slider, it was always 'beneath' the OK-button.

I restored the pad via iTunes and decided to never use the locate sound again.

I'll try Find my Friends. If it's an iCloud-based software, it may well be a good replacement for Find my iPad.

That's weird. Well, I'm glad you got it sorted, if not the easy way.

Fine my Friends is another Apple App. It's focus is finding and tracking (with their permission) other users through their iOS devices; where Find my Phone was mostly about finding your own devices if lost.

I don't like the design of the app much, but it does the job.
