With the release of Fruit Ninja: Puss in Boots, Australia's fantastic Halfbrick Games adds itself to the growing list of indie app developers who are linking up with Hollywood. For Fruit Ninja: Puss in Boots, Halfbrick has teamed up with DreamWorks Animation and THQ, with the result being a mixture of the ever-addictive core gameplay of the original Fruit Ninja game, combined with a fruity and spicy new mix of Spanish and fairytale themes inspired by the DreamWorks Animation motion picture, Puss in Boots, which will hit theatres on October 28.
"The fun and adventure of the Puss in Boots world lends itself perfectly to the core gameplay of Fruit Ninja," said Phil Larsen, chief marketing officer at Halfbrick. "We wanted to create something new and different for our fans while keeping the magic of Fruit Ninja intact, and we think Bandito Mode will keep even the most practiced players on their toes. It's totally rad!"
"This is a unique opportunity to combine one of the most popular animated cats of all time with one of the most popular games of all time," said Chris Hewish, head of global interactive for DreamWorks Animation, "and it highlights our commitment to working with the best talent in the world. I'm extremely pleased with how Halfbrick and THQ combined the authenticity of swordplay and the fun of fruit slashing."
The game features two new modes - Desperado and Bandito, as well as The Stash, which is chock full of unlockable wallpapers and blades, including the Cat Cantina arena, the Firework blade, and the Cat's Claw. Desperado Mode is a fresh take on Fruit Ninja's Classic Mode, featuring new Magic Beans and enhanced waves and scoring. Bandito Mode has been developed exclusively for this new version of the game, being a four-tiered challenge adventure where players get to work through a series of increasing difficult slicing games.
