Hi,

I'm new to this Site and the IPAD 2 so please bear with me :-)

I have a laptop where i work, Afghanistan, which i have synced my ipad to - although internet connection is quite troublesome so impossible to download movies and music from apple. When i go home, i don't take my laptop, but use the one I have at home in the UK. Not sure what I did wrong, but basically, all the stuff I had on my ipad was removed when i synced it to the laptop in the UK.
I know I can register up to 5 computers to the ipad but am not sure if this means when i hook my ipad up to either laptop that all data will remain.
Can anyone help an IT novice out please - the less jargon the better :-))))))))))

Hi there Daisy and welcome.

The 5 computer rule is for your computers using iTunes rather than the actual iDevices. It's not a good idea to sync with more than one computer as you have found out. I do have a workaround for this. I make a cloned backup of the hard drive of the computer that I normally use for syncing, then just carry that HD with me, if I need to sync to a different computer I just boot from the Ext HD.

Others may have a better solution.

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for both iOS 4 and 5.

If you have other Apple products or are interested in other Apple kit then why not join our sister forum too at http://www.appleforums.net/

That's one way of doing.

Personally, I use SugarSync to keep my library media in sync on multiple computers. As long as all the media is present and the library's GUID are the same, iTunes will happily sync on either device.

An external drive can be used for the same purpose. The important thing it to make sure you keep everything under the Music > ITunes folder in your account in sync. For windows users, I have some batch files that work for automating the external drive method, since I use it when initially setting up new computers. Unfortunately, I'm not near any of my computers with copies of the scripts right now, but I can post them later if anyone is interested.

I synced my iPad2 with my Mac Power book to get songs from computer to my iPad songs were there, But i also lost my Drop Box and another program.
