I'm trying to figure out how to transfer my ipod music from the desktop PC (Windows) to my new ipad. Any help would be appreciated. Please keep it simple.

Plug your ipad into the USB port on your computer, wait for iTunes to find it. Then, highlight the music you want to move to the device and then drag and drop it onto the iTunes sidebar where your ipad is shown. Music will sync automatically.

Just to add to the excellent advice from the first post to your question, I'm assuming that all of the music on your iPod is also on your PC - correct? If so, then you should be able to easily follow the directions given - now, I'm not sure which iTunes version your are using on Windows, but mine is 11.1.3 on a MBPro - the newer version does not have the 'Sidebar' showing by default (where your iPad would appear once plugged into your PC's USB port) - if not, then go to the 'View' tab in the iTunes menu and select 'Show Sidebar' - good luck and let us know your results. Just to add to Giradman's advice; you need to hit the Alt key on Windows PCs to access the Windows menus. On Mac computers the menus are at the top of the screen, so this is not an issue. Once you have used Alt to find the menus, you can use View to make them show up in iTunes by default.

Seems to me the latest versions of iTunes were written with Mac use predominantly in mind.
