Hi,
Can you help me with this issue? I want to add multi touch gestures to an ipad 2 with a macbook OS X 10.5.8; I tried to installed Xcode 3.2.6, but that was impossible, because I need snow leopard, I downloaded xcode 3.1.4 but the ipad was not recognized.
What can I do? Thanks for your attention and time.

Well, you kinda need Snow Leopard to run the more recent iTunes that you also need to use with your iPad. Multi touch gestures are then get-able with Xcode 4. However iOS 5 was just released, and it has gestures in it. Again, you'll need to connect to iTunes (using the latest version), and your mac needs to run Snow Leopard to do so.

is Multi gesture function part of IOS 5 or do you still need to register as a developer and download "Xcode"? I know that feature is not available on IPAD 1.

Thank you so much for your reply. As I am new in Mac and ipad 2, I don´t understand many things. It does not exit an alternative way to add multitouch gestures to my ipad using my mac os x 10.5? It´s not possible to me to get Snow Leopard by this moment. Thanks

You don't need to be a developer to buy Xcode 4. It installs gestures just by being on your computer and connecting to iPad. I did it on my ipad 1 several months ago. (Xcode 4 may not be available anymore, a new one has been released). Search the threads for "get multitouch gestures" for more info.

Today's release of the update for all iPads to iOS 5, includes gestures as one of the many new features.

If you've got an iPad you'll eventually need to use iTunes on your computer, and Macs need OS 10.6 and up (Snow Leopard or Lion) to run it. Maybe you can borrow someone's computer to get the update, or if you're near an Apple store, they may do it for you (iOS 5 is a free update)

There should be a "switch" in Settings > General, just turn it on and go!

FWIW Multitasking Gestures were only added to the iPad 2 with iOS 5. Multitasking gestures were not enabled on the original iPad with iOS 5 and it was removed from iPads for folks that had used the Xcode method to enable them. Unfortunately the method used to enable them on the original iPad no longer works. More here...

Thanks for the heads up. I feared as much. Without gestures I really don't think iOS 5 is for me at this time. I think I've got the orig. Xcode 4 on a hard drive some where just in case. Unless you think iOS 5 "defeats" it.

I tried with Xcode 4.2, but you could give 4.0 a try...would be interested in knowing if it still works. I miss the gestures, but iOS 5 has some pretty cool features. Let me know how it goes!

I don't think you can go back once you upgrade.
