Hi new user looking for travel advice

Lauran24

Hi therE! My name is lauran and I'm looking to find how to use my 3G with AT&T to travel. I'm in the US and we are going to china. The international plans looked so expensive and doing a search, I found ppl buy a card in china and cut it down.
Do I have to turn anything off on my computer before I do this so I don't get any roaming charges? Does the roaming apply only apps and Internet? Basically I want to use the iPad for my downloaded movies, music, games and take pics to upload online, and check email and news, weather on Internet. If I wait to buy a card in hong kong, is it also good in gilan and Beijing? What about when I'm on the plane over there, what will I have access to?

I've been burned beforenwhen I had Verizon with my Droid and they wanted to charge me 300 dollars when I had my phone in Mexico and I barely accessed the Internet or my games I downloaded. The games I downloaded needed the Internet. I'm notnsure if my games I downloaded here need Internet as well so I'm not sure if I can use on the plane.

How do I buy a card in china? Are there particular stores that sell them? Do I have to cut it? If so what tools do I need. Sorry lots of questions and very confused but want to make the most out of my iPad. Thanks!

Turn off the data roaming for the most part when abroad. We usually talk to ATT before we go abroad and get a international plan that you can use when you are there and then remove when you get home. I would look at where you are staying to see if they offer WIFI at the hotel. Save 3G for text data. EX. Emails. Pictures, movies and streaming will leave you with a huge bill. Check your 3G data use now and learn how much you use now. Track it on the trip. Download a WIFI texting app so, you can text while your their via WIFI. They are free.

You might need to just wait until you return to send the pictures and videos.
