According to a report on 9to5 Mac, Apple’s HomePod smart speaker, which is available now to pre-order, will receive software updates via the Home app, which will notify users when a new software update for the speaker is available. HomePod uses an adapted version of iOS, so the update interface will look very similar to that of iOS updates.
You can choose to update just one HomePod in a home, or more than one if you’re lucky enough to have several! You can also update stereo pairs, and stereo pairing will only work on HomePods that are running the same iOS version. It’s also possible to enable automatic updates.
Apparently, the forthcoming iOS 11.3 will be the first update to support stereo pairing, and will have a special alert to inform the user that stereo pairing is possible.
From the above information, it’s starting to sound very much as if HomePod will update in a very similar way to the way that watchOS updates via the Apple Watch app on the iPhone, only in the case of HomePod it will be via the Home app.
