Following a promise made nearly one year ago, Honda has now announced that it is bringing Apple’s Siri Eyes Free integration feature to three of its car models - the 2013-2014 Honda Accord, and the 2013 Acura RDX and ILX. Honda has plans to bring the feature to more vehicles as soon as next month and will continue in the beginning of the next year.
The Siri Eyes Free feature is available as a dealer installed accessory and allows you to perform a number of functions safely whilst driving without having to touch your iPhone. You can tell Siri to send and text messages or emails, create calendar events and reminders, activate turn-by-turn navigation and more. Also, Siri Eyes Free keeps the display of your iPhone or iPod off during tasks so it wouldn’t distract the driver.
Art St. Cyr, vice president of product planning and logistics, American Honda, said the following:
Honda recognizes the power of Siri Eyes Free to meet connectivity and convenience needs of its customers in a responsible manner. With technology becoming further integrated into people’s lives, we are happy to provide next-generation connectivity and meet our customer’s ever-changing needs.
General Motors has also announced recently that it is bringing support for Siri Eyes Free to select 2014 car models, but the company hasn’t yet made public the information.
