What's new

How bright are you ?

40 - 50 % with autobrightness on for most stuff. When viewing photos I simply turn autobrightness off, but don't change the dial. 100% would burn a hole in the back of my head.

People who look at really bright screens before bedtime may find themselves with difficulty sleeping.

I keep it at 1/3 brightness indoors. The more brightness around me the more I increase it even when plugged in.
Used to have it at 100% brightness all the time until I realized it was causing problems with my eyes in low light conditions and nightdriving.
Eyes are back to normal now.
When watching movies I have it at 100% but always a light on in the room.

I keep all my devices, including iStuff, at the dimmest setting unless they're washed out by ambient light that I can't control. Even outdoors, when I need to see my screen on occasion for calling and such, I can see it fine at about 30 to 50 percent. I don't sit outside reading on these screens, of course.

Doesn't make sense to call it 0 percent, but that's what I use most of the time.

I have mine set of 65-70% it seems 50% is too low. I had two cataracts removed a couple years ago and wonder it that plays into it?

Maybe, maybe not. It's surprising to me, but it would seem people have different sensitivities to brightness. Or, there is quite a bit of varience in brightness between iPad. I can't afford to own more than one at a time (certainly can't use more than one at a time).

The U.S. Nat'l Institutes of Health on cataracts:

Causes and Risk Factors
What causes cataracts?
The lens lies behind the iris and the pupil. It works much like a camera lens. It focuses light onto the retina at the back of the eye, where an image is recorded. The lens also adjusts the eye's focus, letting us see things clearly both up close and far away. The lens is made of mostly water and protein. The protein is arranged in a precise way that keeps the lens clear and lets light pass through it.

But as we age, some of the protein may clump together and start to cloud a small area of the lens. This is a cataract. Over time, the cataract may grow larger and cloud more of the lens, making it harder to see.

Researchers suspect that there are several causes of cataract, such as smoking and diabetes. Or, it may be that the protein in the lens just changes from the wear and tear it takes over the years.

Everyone's eyes differ, even over hours and days, because of blood pressure, genetics, exposure and more. That's why it makes sense for individuals to determine in person what screen looks best, and to go to pros (not strangers on forums) for eye care, lol.

I often use two iPads at the same time. Examples: movie on one, surfing on the other; producing Keynote presentations -- one screen for entering, the other to see data that I'm using. Lots of possibilities.

I can see that you are going to be a really bad influence on me. :)

Believe it. I bought two at launch of iPad 1, both 64GB. I gave away one later, so I got an iPad 2, also 64GB.

Every once in a while, when one of mine is charging, I filch my husband's to use as a second screen.
