How do i delete old pics after editing

Hello,
I synced photos from my laptop to my new iPad 2 with iOS 5 and want to delete photos that I don't want there.
I have looked in the user manual and there it's mentioned that I should use the trash bin in the up right corner.
There is no icon of the trash bin !
So what is wrong ?

Photos placed on your iPad by syncing with your computer can only be deleted from the computer, not directly from the iPad. Only photos in your camera roll folder or imported folder on the iPad can be deleted from the iPad itself.
