How do I get out of 'Reader' mode ?

Hi everyone .. this is my first post and I'm hoping someone can help me please? I have an iPad 2 with retina display. Up until today, when I visited my blog or any others linked to it, I could see the usual display (format?) .. however today all I get is what appears to be in 'reader' mode and I don't know what to do to the normal view. I spent about 3 hours this morning trying to work out what has happened without success. When I type the url it automatically appears with /?m=1 after the .com . In desperation I came to my desktop pc and everything is as it should be and the blogs appear normally - so I'm thinking there must be something in the iPad settings that I've accidently changed. I would really appreciate any help. Cheers, Dorothy

When you are in Reader mode, scroll to the very top. At the top right should be a button that reads "Done." Press that button and you should go back to the normal page view.

Hope this helps. Holler back if it doesn't.

Thanks for your response Marilyn. I'm not sure what's going on .. yesterday the word 'reader' was on the right hand side of the address bar but not its not. However, the blog still appears wrong. I can scroll down and click on the words 'web view' and that fixes it but next time I go to the site, its back to the view which is just plain text (no template, no pictures etc). The numeral 1 in /?m=1 seems to hold the clue - if I change it to zero I get the proper web view - (until next time). Its frustrating me as this is the first time I've had this problem and I've had my iPad for 6 months now. Thanks again for your response. Cheers, Dorothy

Oh, I think I know what's happening. The web site you are trying to view is loading a mobile version (because it recognizes the iPad as a mobile device). In a mobile version, web sites are designed to be stripped of all the "extra" stuff - in essence, they do look as if you've activated the Reader function in Safari.

So, it's not you (or the iPad), it's them/the web site. Usually, however, there is a link, somewhere on the main page of a web site, that says something like "desktop." Finding and then clicking that link usually forces the web site to give you the coding for a "normal" computer versus what they think is for a mobile device. In the web designer's defense, most were built when the only mobile device was a smart phone and they needed the adjustments. :)

So, look for that link. Then, once it's clicked, it should stay that way for the next time you visit (unless/until you clear out your cookies or are browsing privately).

Hope that helps.

Excellent explanation. I prefer mobile versions of sites because they load faster and have far less junk to distract me.
