How do I prevent this from happening?

This question pertains more to iTunes than iPad.

Everytime I download a video or song on my PC (not from iTunes) it automatically opens iTunes and creates a new Playlist for the file I downloaded.

How do I stop this from happening?

You have windows set to associate that music file with iTunes. When you first installed iTunes, it asks you if you want to associate certain music files with iTunes, and I guess you hit yes.
I am at school, so I can't help you with reversing the effect.

(I just hope Marie doesnt see this or she will yell at me for being on here in school )
