How to back up iPad to external hard drive?

I want to copy everything from my iPad to an external hard drive.


All apps are gone but the files are still there. In other words I found them in ifile and there is no change in available space.

What I want to do is copy every thing to an external hard drive( so I won't waste space on my computer). Then restore my iPad , update if there is a jailbreak for iOS 6( if there is please tell me) . Re- jailbreak and bring all the files back to my iPad.
