Sounds like you've damaged something in the iPad's screen, a connector of something on the board most likely.
Still, it won't hurt to try a reset. If a reset does not fix it, you're probably left with getting it repaired or replaced. Unless it's was purchased with AppleCare Plus (or another insurance provider), accidental damage is not covered under the warrantee, so expect to pay.

Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot. This usually takes a bit longer than a restart.
