Yeah, it is. But, mine just keeps cranking along. That being said, it's tough to buy an iPad 2 right now. Unless you get a refurb for a great price. Tough call.

My iPad3 gets pretty warm at times, but its not uncomfortable and I haven't had any problems with the heating up. The amount it heats up varies. At present it is hardly warm. If I'm worried about overheating, I turn it off to let it cool. Let it rest for 20 minutes or so before switching back on.

Black makes everything look smaller and every smudge is visible. White is much more aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion.

I prefer black, but that's really just my opinion.

It might be beneficial to play with both colors in an Apple store, or other electronic retailer, and see which you like the most.

My iPad 4 doesn't heat up when surfing the Web. I've seen some posters say that their iPad 3s and 4s warm up sometimes, like with graphics-intensive games. I would not worry about it unless the iPad is too hot to hold. There seems to be a bit of variation in the 3 and 4 models warming up, because of the retina screens and the juice needed to support them.
