If you get a chance to try it with a faster Internet connection, let us know if it makes a difference.

I will go to town to get the mail today. I can stop by the library and use the wifi while I am out.

If it is an issue the Apple Store should replace it in the spot - not take it in, repair it, then give it back to you. You shouldn't be without for any length of time so don't put off having it checked.

OK. I tried it on a fast connection at the library. When I searched for something the was a lot of chop and flashing on the screen as I scrolled through the list of the results.

By the way, I just got this on Christmas Day. My computer has iTunes 11. The iPad has 6.0.1 (10A523). The first time I plugged the iPad in and looked at the iPad in iTunes there was a bit of yellow on the memory bar. This is for "other". I had not put anything on the iPad at this point. I was still trying to force it to connect to my wifi.
The nearest Apple Store is about two hours drive away. I guess I could go there and have it looked at. The first thing they are going to ask is, is it backed up? Yes.

I think that if I decide to do a restore it is going to ask to upgrade to the latest iOS and I cannot do that at home. It takes so long on dialup that it times out.

Before going to the AppleStore, try calling the toll free tech support number. Apple devices come with 90 days of free telephone technical support. BTW, the newest version of iOS for the iPad 4 is iOS 6.0.1.

These two screen pictures show what the shudder looks like. I took a movie with my phone and captured some frames. The screen flashes with a different overlay of what is being presented and the overlay is offset. It reminds me of interlace not matching up.

Never seen anything like that. By all means call or go to apple store

I called apple and was asked to do a restore as new. Even though the iPad has the latest iOS, 6.0.1, it needed to be downloaded to my computer. It was going to take 21 hours. I'm on dialup. I'll download it in town tomorrow and transfer the file to my computer when I get home and then try the restore as new.

I called and did a restore as new. Same trouble with the shuddering.
I went to the Apple Store, with an appointment. Two hours drive to get there. First they watched the shuddering. Then they reloaded the firmware. That took a long time. They had to download the package before they could apply it. Same shudder.
The genius decided it should be replaced. He only had one iPad 4 64GB in the back. We went through the setup process and this one also did the shuddering.
We went to the hands on play with me set of iPads. There were no 64GB iPads there so we tried one of the 32GB demos. Same shuddering. He tried an iPad 2. Same shuddering.
Even though we went through paperwork and signatures to trade I wanted my original iPad 4 back. It is engraved. The genius went in the back to talk with a boss, I guess. He traded back.
I was in the Apple Store for an hour and a half. I got to play with a MacBook Pro 15", not retina. It is sweet. I figured out how to use the touch pad. Their Internet is very slow!
I drove back home. Two hours. At least now Apple knows there is a problem. My guess it is with the iOS 6.0.1.
I am in the middle of restoring from backup.
It was an adventure.

4 iPads with the exact same issue? "Shuddering"
But nobody here has ever heard or seen it before?
iOS 6.01? Doubt it.....most here have it with zero issues.

Sorry but something just doesn't make sense here....

Hi Fid,

Quite an odyssey you've been on. Please keep us up to date. I would like to know how this is resolved. As I'm sure other forum members would.

Good luck.

I sure will Admiral.
Thanks.

Maybe, because they have the issue on record, you can get one that has been verified to not have the problem straight from Apple which I am sure they will engrave/personalize just like your current one.
