These two screen pictures show what the shudder looks like. I took a movie with my phone and captured some frames. The screen flashes with a different overlay of what is being presented and the overlay is offset. It reminds me of interlace not matching up.

Pardon me can you tell me what app did you use to capture the frames from your movie? Thanks

I called and did a restore as new. Same trouble with the shuddering.
I went to the Apple Store, with an appointment. Two hours drive to get there. First they watched the shuddering. Then they reloaded the firmware. That took a long time. They had to download the package before they could apply it. Same shudder.
The genius decided it should be replaced. He only had one iPad 4 64GB in the back. We went through the setup process and this one also did the shuddering.
We went to the hands on play with me set of iPads. There were no 64GB iPads there so we tried one of the 32GB demos. Same shuddering. He tried an iPad 2. Same shuddering.
Even though we went through paperwork and signatures to trade I wanted my original iPad 4 back. It is engraved. The genius went in the back to talk with a boss, I guess. He traded back.
I was in the Apple Store for an hour and a half. I got to play with a MacBook Pro 15", not retina. It is sweet. I figured out how to use the touch pad. Their Internet is very slow!
I drove back home. Two hours. At least now Apple knows there is a problem. My guess it is with the iOS 6.0.1.
I am in the middle of restoring from backup.
It was an adventure.

So are you basically saying that the shuddering is just an iOS problem? And it's most likely my beloved ipad 4 is fine?

Same here. I really wanted to get the ipad mini when I first heard that it was coming out. Then I heard that it didn't have retina. I'm sorry but that's a downgrade for me. Once it goes retina I'm getting one too!

OK. I tried it on a fast connection at the library. When I searched for something the was a lot of chop and flashing on the screen as I scrolled through the list of the results.

I have the same thing happen on my 64 GB iPad 4 when using my home WiFi connection (24 Mbps via the 5 GHz 802.11n band) and my Samsung Galaxy S3's WiFi Hotspot (3G/HSPA+) but only when scrolling very fast down the list of apps in the Apple Store and, less frequently, when quickly scrolling down a freshly loaded web page on Safari. The icons kind of flicker/glitch a little and the scrolling gets a little choppy/stuttery but I believe it is normal as I'm scrolling too fast for it to keep up with the caching. I do not see this anywhere else. The only time the icons shudder is when I hold down on them so the little X appears in the top corner so you can delete them.

That minor niggle aside, I absolutely love my iPad 4. It's the first Apple product I've ever bought and I certainly don't regret it. I'm wondering how I ever did without a tablet for this long to be honest.

In agreement with all. Finally managed to get all the connections to set up my digi piano with the ipad. Works so well with garageband. More voices to use, rhythms etc. etc. So many things I can do with it. Finally out of the dark pad-less ages...

I just paused the movie ans did screen captures with the home and power buttons. Hold them both and quickly let go for a screen capture.

It seems to be an iOS problem. Does your iPad also shudder or do some kind of screen flash?

ROKU brand new only costs between 59 and 99. Depends on which model you purchase. There are 720p and 1080p models.

Hi guys and gals. First post here. I just got my first iPad (black iPad 4 WiFi 64Gb) this Christmas as a gift from my wife. I also bought her one but since she's not as much of a tech/gadget geek as I am, I got her the iPad2 16Gb.
Anyhow, regarding the shuddering issue, I've noticed it a couple times on my iPad. It usually occurs when installing an app/apps and from what I recall, I was in the app store scrolling up and down when the shuddering occurs. These happened while connected via WiFi to my home network.

ROKU,i am now trying this.

Let me know if you like ROKU. I just wish that ROKU had local markets instead of local markets with recorded sound bites.

I don't have mu ipad engraved. I seriously wanted to but since it is unremovable, I hate that to hurt its resale value whenever I upgrade to the next newest and greatest ipad perhaps sometime in the future. Though currently I am very happy with my ipad 4, maybe I will trade it in someday for the ipad 7 or 8 or whatever #. Hehe

True if there were two of the same iPads storage space, generation, shape. If one was engraved and one was not. Selling for the same price I would choose the one not engraved.

With this shuddering problem I may just purchase me a iPad 3. Less expensive and no shuddering

Forget eBay and purchase an iPad 4 from Apple and you have nothing to worry about.

I tried replicating this prob on my iPad 4 and couldn't, but I figure if it happened while scrolling really fast, it wouldn't matter to me, because it'd be scrolling too fast for me to read at that point.

For me, the only reason to buy a discontinued model would be to save money. And in that case, it would only happen if I couldn't afford the diff, because I figure the diff is penny wise, pound foolish, because of the older guts and likelihood of shorter firmware upgrades.

Hi KayKayKay,
I experience the problem, not just in iTunes. And it is most noticeable when you scroll slowly. I saw this on iPad 2 and 4. They both had iOS 6.0.1 installed.
