iCloud backup not working

Since my update and JB of 8.1 my iPad won't backup to iCloud. Everyday when I unlock for the first time of that day there is a pop up asking for the password. I have gone into settings and checked the iCloud settings and all looks good there. I have no problem logging into either iCloud or the App Store. So it's not like I have the password wrong or forgotten. As a result there have been no backups for 3 weeks now. I did not do the iCloud Drive thing. I read about if one chooses to opt for that they must do so with all their devices. And there is no going back. So I opted out for now. I repeat I did not go down that path.

Any thoughts?
 
Try this: turn off Backup in iCloud, and turn it on again after five minutes.
