What's new

If you are new, please post an introduction thread.

Hi everyone,

Feeling brave I will admit that I am a Windows user, but my wife can't get on with it. She wants to be able to browse the web (and no doubt make some purchases!) and use e-mail so I have bought her an iPad 3

Trying to teach her to use e-mail is very much a case of the lame and the blind as I am approaching it from an Outlook Express perspective. Is it possible to set up a contacts list and put messages into separate folders? If so what are the iPad equivalents and how do I do it?

At the moment she is using her registation iCloud e-mail address. I have never seen this being used by anyone else and wonder why.

I suspect that this may be the first of several very basic queries.

Contacts go in the Contacts App.....

These can then be used to auto populate the "to" box in an email.

As for folders it depends on the type of email account you have but the answer is basically yes, you can set up folders, it just depends on whether you do it directly in the Mail App or on your existing PC.

There is no reason why she shouldn't use her iCloud email address, just make sure that her password is safe.

Thanks Gabriel1 for a prompt and helpful reply. Looks like I must pay more attention to the built in apps.

I'm intrigued to know why there is not a single iCloud address in my OE address book which has over 1,500 entries (I know that a number of these are mac users).

When I go to my iCloud address in settings there are around eight different email addresses listed that I can use to send emails from my iCloud account including all my old mac.com addresses.

But do you ever use the iCloud account to send a message and if not why not?

I'm not trying to be a cleverclogs, just genuinely curious as to why no-one seems to use iCloud and wondering if there is a possible reason why.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

I think it just may be because everyone has already had their email accounts set up before joining iCloud and hence no real reason to need another email address. I have one and have yet to use it also.

Hello

My name is Steve and I have joined this forum looking for some help.

I am looking for a recommendation for a calendar app, or similar, that allows the user to customize the period on which events occur, eg on a Monday every 12 weeks?

Thanks in advance

Steve

Hi Steve,

I would suggest looking at Pocket Informant and Smart Pad Apps, both are highly customisable with good Dev support.

Newbie - Internet Explorer

Hi everyone,
I am so happy to have found this forum. I am using last spring iPad, which I am devoted to. However, I am unable to access a work secure database which can only be accessed by Internet Explorer. Does anyone have any tips of how I can access this database ?
Thank you in advance for your wisdom.
Sandy
