I remember a nice post recently by skimonkey in the "What I see in my back yard" thread with a picture taken at the "Alma Mater".
Here's the link: What I see in my backyard... - Page 169
This got me hankering to take my new camera for a walk among my Alma Mater of quite some years ago, the University of Adelaide.
It was a lovely day of 18c so I took a walk through my old uni grounds, and would like to share some snaps with you in this thread.

The Adelaide uni is the second oldest in Australia and one of the most prestigious in the Southern Hemisphere.

It has some lovely architecture, a joy to walk among and admire.

They don't build 'em like this any more.

It caters for students from all over the world in well-recognised degrees.

Here is the building where I got my BEc degree. Fond memories of nodding off during lectures in the large steep auditoriums.

One of many of my great Professors was Prof. Harcourt, a brilliant economist whose text books are still used throughout the world. But a cruel man:). He would wait until the last lecture before lunch in his microeconomics classes and then constantly use beer and juicy steaks etc in his pricing at the margin examples. Fond memories!

Doors to the original assembly hall. Many a nervous exam was sat in there;) A distinct memory still; when one of the exam candidates, at the desk next to mine, had had enough, crunched up his exam papers and set fire to it all. Memories. oh, yes.

That building is (or was) the Psychology building. In my degree I had to take one "humanities" subject and I chose psychology. Loved it! and was gobsmacked to be told when summoned to Prof. Dalziel's office that I was the first non-psych student to come top of Psych1. Yes...fond memories.

Anyway, among many other snaps, that was my walk through my old Alma Mater.

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pictures look like a castle, sort of. :)

The bricks on the ground behind the BBQ grill were put there to keep the dogs from getting their feet dirty. So now they walk in-between them! :D

Nice photos of your old school, OB! What is your new camera (sorry if you answered this already - I went back several pages and could not see it)?

Thanks AQ_OC, it's an Olypmus OM-D E-M5. Here's a picture I took of it with my iPad.

Heres a review of it to give you a better idea. I'm very pleased with it. They say its the person behind the camera and not the gear that makes a good photographer. I'll never be in the Good category but gee this camera will assist.

They certainly are right with "the person behind the camera".
I like your pictures. You're good.

Can someone tell me what surreal means?

Perhaps you'll understand when you look at the pictures. You should realize that they can't be real.

The definition would be:
very strange or unusual; having the quality of a dream

Your photos are superb, OB.

The Uni looks wonderful - it reminds me of traditional UK universities.

Thanks Richard. These old buildings remind of some we saw in Oxford whose themes would no doubt have been copied in the 1800s. Unfortunately we never got to see Cambridge or your other famous ones.

Thanks J.A. Here's a few more just to conclude my post of that day's walk. Although I have not done so, a lot of those shots could have been much improved with some editing, particularly straightening. (Although the camera, which has good anti-shake and auto exposure has helped with the eyesight and shaky hands;))

I think I will try a "walk and shoot" (among people, rather than in the woods)! Something I have been saying I would do for a while now, but I can't seem to stay out of those woods. I think I like critters more than people.
