I think I will try a "walk and shoot" (among people, rather than in the woods)! Something I have been saying I would do for a while now, but I can't seem to stay out of those woods. I think I like critters more than people.

Quite right! You never know what critters you will meet up in the woods, even those guys in green with bows and arrows!

Nice neat classrooms J.A. What are those holes or cavities on the desk tops? They remind me of ink wells we had in our desk tops in primary school many years ago, and the real trouble I got into by once dipping a girl's pig tails into them;) I suppose they are for pencils and such.

Thank you!
You're right, they're for pencils, rubbers,... The children rarely use them, most of the time their pencil cases are hiding them.

Thanks J.A. Here's a few more just to conclude my post of that day's walk. Although I have not done so, a lot of those shots could have been much improved with some editing, particularly straightening. (Although the camera, which has good anti-shake and auto exposure has helped with the eyesight and shaky hands;))

WOW?..to think that is where Robin Hood lived with all his merry men! Oh, and Maid Marion of course! :-) IT is truly beautiful. Thanks for posting it.

Those are great photos again OB. Can you call up the 1/3rds guide lines in the camera viewfinder? Although I don't think you really need to as the photos look darn good. :)

Thanks Richard. Although I try to keep the "rule of thirds" and stuff like the "golden rule" in picture composition, I don't follow that slavishly, and to be honest often forget:) There is an option in the camera for a grid in the viewfinder which includes the one-third aspect. One fault in my pictures has been getting the verticals right. It was only in further reading of the manual today that I found there to be a choice of viewfinder screen also to help with keeping stuff vertical or horizontal....here

This last camera "walk" was an initial try-out of the beastie mainly straight on auto everything to see how it handles exposure using the electronic viewfinder (wherein you see, not as a real outside view per an SLR camera, but an actual view of the photo as it will look, after all camera settings have been made) An incredible feature IMO. You design the photo before you shoot.

One feature I'm also keen to try is the oled rear screen in different positions for macro, waist high or overhead shots...

Those gauges are rather handy. That's a great feature.

I find the adjustable screen on the Canon very very useful, especially when trying out candid shots, or for using the camera like a periscope when taking photos above the heads of a crowd of people.

I can see that you will really enjoy using the Olympus. :)
