Red Fly Studio has announced that its multi-award winning platform game, Inertia: Escape Velocity, is available to download for free for today only, as part of the FreeAppADay.com promotion. The game puts players in the role of deep space scavenger Hermes, who is on a mission to collect scrap to mend his downed spaceship so that he can get back home. Armed with a unique anti-gravity mechanic, players jump, float and bounce their way across levels, manipulating gravity and navigating force fields. Players have a choice of controls – they can opt to use on-screen controls for movement, jumping, and gravity control, or they can be brave and adopt the challenging “tilt†controls that turn your entire device into the controller.

Inertia: Escape Velocity is the spiritual successor to the award-winning student project Inertia. Created by students out of Southern Methodist University’s game development program, it was awarded the Grand Prize for non-professional games in the 2011 Indie Game Challenge last February.

The HD version for iPad is $3.99, not free. Am I just too late?

Not too late. Only the standard has been released as free today. If you check the item descriptions of each version of the app. Only the standard version of the app has the 'freeappaday' mention.

Proud owner of a 32GB wifi iPad2 iOS5.
