For what it's worth, I asked the delivery person if they had been delivering a lot. She said "yeah, been running all day". Keep in mind this is tiny Switzerland where there have been no advertisements, and the buzz isn't running so strong. And, it is a day early!
On the other hand, an iPad is cheaper than an iPhone at the moment, here so it seems like a good deal.
