Ars Technica has more news today on the latest iOS 5 beta (2), and specifically Apple’s attempts to make jailbreaking even more difficult. According to the report, based on a post on the Dev-Team Blog, changes discovered in the iOS 5 beta show that Apple is intending to prevent downgrades to previous versions of iOS. As Ars Technica points out, this is of significance to jailbreakers, many of whom rely on having the opportunity to roll back to an earlier version of iOS after a jailbreak that goes wrong, for example. But not for much longer, it would appear.

Ars Technica explains that Apple is making changes to “APTicket†in iOS 5, which basically will prevent jailbreakers restoring “blobs†that have been saved after iOS 5. And apparently untethered jailbreaks will also be impossible because of these changes that Apple plans to implement. Anxious jailbreakers should check out the blog post from Dev-Team for the in-depth technical details.

I'm not a jailbreaker yet, but this "news" certainly seems significant, though I suppose Apple has been after these rogues for quite some time now. :)
