iOS 7 - first impressions

personally i preferred the jiggling icons, just tap the x's until empty.

So, is this the best the new OS offers? not really worth all the hassle just to look more like android surely?

i think they missed the fact most Apple users like Apples colour schemes as they were, not those chosen by manic modifiers on jail broken devices :(.

i have the GSM version, would love to be able to use it hands free while reading documents, as it is phone jammed under one ear searching fir a surface i can use.

the new interface fir me is annoying and lacking invention and feel of quality we had become to expect from Apple!, if not intended splendid job of turning an expensive quality device into a more reliable version of an Android!

The new iOS 7 eats my iPad 4G battery! I've done so many things on it like stop motion, brightness, background apps etc etc and still it is not as good as it used to be on iOS 6.1.3 ! Definitely Apple must release iOS 7.1 and fix the battery bug! Klevis
Hi, i have the same experience. Even thought people says just close all background apps, but ithis ver of OS seems to be draining my battery at a faster rate than that of ver6. Any other tips to reduce battery consumption besides the commonly known ones?

iOS 7 may work a bit better on iPhone 5s, because it has a better processor.
I feel that it is not a good strategy to use the same (latest) IOS regardless of what ipad/phone version you have, simply because each device have their own specs such as processor, screen resolution, camera etc. it is not prudent to force everyone to always have to install the latest version everytime there is one. We should be alllowed to remain at the older versions without being compellled to update a version which is not compatible with our hardware spec.

What you say is completely wrong.

iOS is tailored for each device that uses it. The iOS 7 on an iPad 3 is not exactly the same as iOS 7 on an iPad 2 or on an iPhone. Each model of device capable of running iOS 7 has it's own version.

No one is forced to update any device to the latest iOS version. You can leave it on it's current iOS until it dies of old age if you choose.

Oh really, i didn't know it. Thanks for letting me know. Still, i feel that my device will not be supported in the long run if i choose not to download the latest version everytime it is available. I mean the apps will all be written to be compatible with the latest version. Right? So, in a way, i still dont have much choice.

if your device us not on the latest iOS version, Apple now allows you to download the latest compatible version of an app, even if the app currently requires a newer iOS version than what is on your device.

good to know. Thanks. Sorry for my ignorance.

I don't think you are right there. All devices do not have the same features of iOS 7. Newer devices have the advantage of more iOS 7 features. One of the leading causes of this is the processor. Some feature may require fast speed to show off best user experience, which can be given by an upgraded processor. I did not mention about other features of a device such as camera.

I feel Apple should include in the update part of settings an option to revert to the last OS. That way you could at least try the OS out and if it doesn't appeal to you or leaves your device unstable, which a lot of people have complained about, you have the option of changing back. At present it's a one way shot, and if the bullet hits you in the foot then you're left with a permanent limp, either that or go off the reservation by jailbreaking your device.

This would avoid a lot of irate owners with older equipment complaining that the OS has slowed this action or that to a crawl. The iPad 1 can't update further than IOS 5 because the processor can't handle the strain, but the fact is it can't handle IOS 5 either, paint would dry quicker than using Safari for instance on an iPad 1 with IOS 5.

Just found another "bug" with IOS 7 to do with email. Everyone knows about the well documented and intuitive delete all emails from your inbox feature right? You select edit tick the first email, hold move then un-tick it, this is supposed to select all emails so you can move them to trash or whatever. The problem is on my iPad this doesn't work, it just crashes to the home page.

Does this happen with anyone else or just me?

This doesn't work any more in iOS 7. You can mark them all as read/unread, there's no way to delete them all at once.

So far I hate safari. How do I save favourites, send to print & email. Seems Apple removed the things people use the most from the menu bar & replaced them with useless selections that make money for Apple. Disney that is a absolute priority for the average ipad user? Rates above the send to icon? Plus I have noticed keeping my ipad charged is becoming an issue. I have to plug it in at every opportunity. Minimalism apparently means minimize users convenience. So far, I am not impressed. Still like my ipad but os7 is a small negative step back in my opinion.

You can print and send emails with the icon at the upper left:

Saving Favorites is there as well: same icon, tap "Bookmarks"

Make sure that "Favorites" is chosen.
