IOS 8 iPad Air 2 Mail badge icon count wrong

Hi
I have the above and even though ALL my mailboxes are empty on my iPad and only have a few on my Mac, the iPad unread mail count is 36' THERE ARE NONE THERE!!!
I have turned mail off, shut down and rebooted and turned Mail back on, still says 36 unread!!!
PLEASE HELP AS THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!

Just a thought: unread emails in spam, junk, trash, archive folders, which may be hidden?

Sorry the above was no help. Next thought, but probably in the same class... Tap on inbox and in the search box type unread. Does that list any emails?

Remove the email account in Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and set it up again afterwards.
