2 quick questions guys...

New to Apple and just got my iPad 2 last week.

1 - Upgraded to iOS 5, it made me create a "me" email. I cant use my Apple account for icloud?

2 - The iOS says I have 5. Upgrade went smoot except whenever I try to connect to the iCloud. I tried to turn on the backup, but keeps saying try again later. Is it really due to bandwidth?

Hello,

Is this "me" e-mail account mandatory (required to create), and more importantly, is it: FREE?

Thanks!

Have a nice day,

Ed

They're all different. Most major programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.) have a control screen. If you open the application there should be a way to turn it off. If yo can't figure it out, a visit to their website is probably in order.

Or you could just buy a Mac. :D Sorry...couldn't resist!

Thanks but I didn't need to in the end. Wish I had bought a Mac. Maybe next year!!

Hello,

I haven't quite yet, figured out where the 'start a new thread button' is located, just joining yesterday here...? :)

So, what I'm asking as a newbie to the 'World of Apple', I just received my used (new to me) very own first ever: Apple iPad (Version 1)..! YIPPEE!

Now. after I am 'slowly learning', how to turn it on, (LOL), and such, I intend to join the ranks of millions (?) world-wide iPad owners/users, that
upgraded their iPads to the new OS - iOS 5.

The iPad shows 50% battery power, and I noticed that there's a iPad to USB cable, plus an AC adapter (I didn't know there would be one)?

I thought the only way we charged our battery was through plugging the iPad into a computer's USB port..? Oh, lots to learn.. ;)

Ok, next question:

I am currently charging the battery, as I don't think the iPad if I plug the USB cable into my MacBook Pro's USB port, would charge, will it?

I was thinking, if I plug the cable into my laptop, then iTunes would detect it, launch itself and then probably show ' There's an UPGRADE!'.

If the iPad doesn't charge, when connected to the computer, while downloading and installing the new iOS 5, I don't dare to do it, UNTIL
I have a FULLY - 100% charged battery.

Please advise? Tips, suggestions, let the Apple iPad class: 101 begin...? :)

Thanks to everyone near and far that is willing to contribute to my threads/posts, great forum here!! TWO THUMBS UP!

Yeah, I got thru now. I am anxious to combine both IDs. I too do have the 25GB. How do you access your mucus in the iTunes library from your iPad using iClouds. I thought I could access any song from any device.
I haven't gotten to the iTunes/iCloud sync bit yet...trying to keep up with posts on the iPF and such. I also thought I'd give their servers some time to cool down after all of this as well. :) Let me know if you get it sorted...it didn't sound too complicated.

1. Unfortunately your current Apple ID and iCloud ID will be different. A real PIA. However as mentioned earlier Apple is working on being able to combine the two. In the meantime you'll have separate ID's.

2. Yes! :)

iOS 5 features: Changes in Music app for iPad | TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog

After error 9 on iPhone and error 3173 on iPad. I got it done. Music is changed on iPad, look at link to see how to Shuffle
Glad things are up and running now.

I'm not thrilled with the new iPad iPod UI either. Initially after the update my music library was a mess. Tap a song and a different song would play, tap another song and nothing would play...ugh. I ended up having to delete all of my music on my iPad and then re-sync it. Seems to be fine now, but that was a little off-putting. Hopefully Apple will resolve some of the non-sense with the UI in iOS 5.1...time will tell.

Hi Ed,

Quick answers to your questions.

You can start a new thread by clicking on "Forum" (in the toolbar at the top of every page), picking the most appropriate forum in which to post your question ("iPad Help" for instance) and then when you're in that forum, tap the "+Post New Thread" button (located at the top and bottom of every page). Mind you...you'll win a lot more friends if you use our search feature first (top of every page). Posting a question that's already been asked and answered is generally not appreciated by one and all.

The iPad will slowly charge when it's plugged into the USB port of most computers if it (the iPad) is turned off. When it's on it will show "not charging". The best way is to simply plug it into the A/C charger overnight. You can use your iPad when it's charging.

Yes, when you upgrade be sure that it's fully charged.

My pleasure Ed. You're well on your way to being an iPad expert! :)

Crying my iPhone is still backing up since 10 pm last night!!! Ughhh... Waaaaaa!!!

Hello,

I sure hope that once I have my iPad's battery fully charged, and start the upgrade process, to iOS 5, it won't take HOURS, as I
haven't any idea as to how long will my battery lasts, throughout the upgrade process?

Shouldn't the iPad enter a special reserve power mode as it is needed, during this process?

Seems to me, once you start the upgrade process, (as we are running only on battery power), how can our devices last for hours/days?

Thanks!

Ed
