All the kids at my sons school were doing the jailbreak thing so of course my son decides he has to do it as well. Apparently halfway through the jailbreak download thing (not completely sure as I wasn't there) the iPad got disconnected.

Now the iPad is completely frozen. You can switch it off by holding down the home and power button but it just turns straight back on again. The only way to completely turn it off is to hold the home and power button down for about 20secs.

When it gets connected to the PC it says thats it's syncing and shows the ipads name, apps, photos etc and you can have a look at everything on the iPad. It then says it can't backup because it is locked by a passcode (the screen is frozen so we can't unlock it). I click the restore and it starts the process and then we get an error saying it can't restore because the ipad can't be found. The iPad seems to keep restarting e.g. it sits frozen on the main screen then all of a sudden it makes a tone then the apple symbol shows up and then it goes back to the main screen again.

After updating iTunes and restarting my PC I tried a "force start" I read about, where you turn iTunes on then connect the iPad but I still have the exact same problem.

Please I am desperate to get this iPad to work again, can anyone help me fix it?

Hi, welcome to iPF!

The way you try to turn off the iPad (Home and Power button) is called a reset. If there are minor glitches, it could remove them. If done properly, the iPad should power up on it's own. Try it again, but this way: press and hold Home and Power button until the Apple logo appears, then release both and let the iPad power up on it's own. Try it a second or even third time.

If this doesn't solve your problem, use recovery mode to get it working again. Here are the instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

What you could try as well, in case recovery mode didn't help, is DFU mode: http://www.ipadforums.net/threads/dfu-mode-for-dummies.27489/

And if this didn't do the trick (as you suppose it's jailbroken), take a look at this method: http://www.ipadforums.net/threads/t...-to-restore-the-current-version-of-ios.52863/

Hope that helps.
