I can confirm that my credit card has a charge from apple on April 20 for $14.40. Not sure for what, since the total shipping was $14. No change on my order.

So i have 2 identical orders out there - for a 64gb 3g with 3 accessories. All Accessories have been received. The orders were placed on March 13 late afternoon and April 3rd in the morning respectively.

It looks like my credit card now has a charge of about $1K in the process - and Apple is the only thing I expect on the card. So -- if logic serves us they are now finishing up charging for the March 13th orders and will work days later in the month. I'll add to the post when the other gets charged. No changes on anything in the Apple store re the order.

My original post this morning was about 6am local time. It's now 10:30 am and it appears that the available balance on my card has dropped by a little over $1800 which would account for both the March 13 and April 3rd iPad 3G orders. The transaction hasn't hit (should hit tonight) but the funds have been tied up.

For those of you whose credit card has been hit for the IPad--what does your order status currently show?

I have 2 items in transit to me from HK (case and power adapter) , but the odd thing is that my credit card has not been hit for either one of them.

Card shows a balance of XXX with an available balance of XXX-1800 (bought 2 iPads).

Order the in the apple store still shows ships late April

as of a few minutes ago, my debit acct shows $729 pending from apple

my apple order status still shows same priority for late april

Did anyone notice if they started charging credit cards this far in advance of shipping for the WiFi model? I could not get myself to read those threads...

Yes, even further in advance for some along with holds placed for the amount for others.

It all depends on your financial institution or bank, just how the charges appear and if held, how long before the charge actually carries over.

Ok so I'm not sure, but, my cc does show a mysterious difference between my available balance and current activity. The amount is large enough to include the ipad along with some other online purchases I made today so methinks the ball is rolling on this people!

I actually think the timing is about right. We're 9 days out from delivery date and they've pre-auth'd the cards. I expect cards to be charged tonight and tomorrow. Now - how long does it take to ship from China to the US and then stage for delivery? 4 days? 5 days? They also should give those folks who got caught off guard and had the charge declined the chance of making things right - giving an alternate card.

The only issue I have with all of this is that they changed the shipping type to 'priority'. If that's the case we better not see these things arrive in the US and then sit in Memphis for 3 days until the official roll-out delivery date. That's what surprise me - saying that the units would deliver on the 30th. Why not deliver them as they get here.

It is rolling - you are correct. Some banks / credit unions will actually list out the transaction as 'pending' so you know how much and from whom. Others simply draw down your 'available' funds so there's a difference between available funds and account balance. If I take the $829 and multiply by 1.08% that just about equals the charge of one 3g 64gb iPad - with New Mexico taxes included.
