At the beginning of this month, we were sharing with you an amazing portrait of Morgan Freeman that has been finger-painted on an iPad. This time the story also involves painting done on the iPad but not by humans, but by cats. Some of the cats currently living in at the Belfast (Ireland) adoption center of Cats Protection in Dundonald have been painting, and their creations are on sale to raise money for the Cats Protection charity organization.
During the painting, the rescue cats have enjoyed hours of stimulation and enjoyment, chasing a mouse by using the Paint For Cats iPad app. The squeaking mouse moves around the screen, obviously making the cat to try and catch it. So, when the little feline pounces or scratches the screen, a brushstroke will be imprinted. Bel Livingstone, manager of the adoption center, explained:
We always knew our cats were special but I really didn’t realise the wealth of untapped talent here. Everyone’s welcome to come along and view the cat art on display and of course take the opportunity to meet the artists.
Volunteer Valeria Higgins, who started the project, added the following:
The cats displayed very different artistic styles. Some were very keen to start painting and would cover the whole canvas within a matter of seconds, while others would look at the screen and ponder what they wanted to draw – ending up with just a single paw print in the middle of the painting. All the artwork is totally unique. There are currently 39 paintings available with prices starting from £1 for a small print and framed paintings for £10.
