iPad2 and WiFi problems

I have had my iPad2 since about the time that they were released and am generally happy with its performance. My broadband is supplied by BT; I moved house a couple of months ago and had to have a new phone line installed - with it we we received a new HomeHub 3 which appears to work well in most respects. My iPad2 is correctly set up to work with my WiFi and I use it both upstairs (where the Hub is situated) and downstairs. Problem is, if I watch anything that streams, like live TV, or BBC iPlayer, everything is fine for a while but then the WiFi seems to cut out and I lose the connection (and the programme!) which is really annoying. When my iPad2 has been idle, as soon as I press the Home key it can take a while before it 'sees' the WiFi and I am connected. I have not experienced these issues before - same iPad2, different WiFi. However, my iPhone and my PC pick up the WiFi immediately and work well, without ever cutting out.

So, please can someone explain what is happening and how I might put it right? I have to stress, having read through several posts on this forum and not understood a word (!) that although I am not an idiot, I'm really not familiar with the technical lingo used with this technology so, if anyone can help, please can you use the technical equivalent of one syllables? We have also moved recently, went to BT and have their Homehub3, we are the reverse of you however, with the Homehub downstairs and the PC upstairs. As a result I had to go out and buy a wi-fi "dongle" (like a usb memory stick) so the PC could"see" the wi-fi signal, a cable connection not being feasible.
Since the initial set-up, I can connect to my iPhone 4 and ipad2 no problem, and the PC shows maximum strength and an excellent signal report. Unfortunately, I now get intermittent loss of typing ability on the PC together with dropping of wi-fi to the PC, accompanied by a tone from the PC speakers. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse so thought they may be somehow interfering with the wi-fi signal, but having dumped these in favour of wired versions of both, STILL get these problems intermittently. The iPhone and the iPad both work flawlessly no matter where they are in the house. It sounds like I have the reverse situation to you, and note that the Homehub is also in the opposite location to yours. Could it be a Homehub issue perhaps?

Gosh ... sounds like your system is even more bothersome than mine! I honestly don't have a clue where the problems lie. I assumed that it was my iPad precisely because the iPhone and PC, which I might use all in the same room upstairs, work just fine. Mind you, I don't watch streaming video on either of the other two so maybe it's that. I realise that in the whole scheme of things my problems are hardly classed as 'serious' but it does niggle, not to be able to do something relatively simple with all this weighty technology! I was considering subscribing to the new BT Infinity which apparently boosts speeds into the stratosphere but I'm not sure it'll make much difference :-) Thanks for sharing. Perhaps someone will yet come up with an answer!
