iPads obsoleted; mismatched updates

just had a recent mail fail bcs I hadn’t updated iOS. Apple tech says mail app can update out of step with the OS.

It dawned on me that a perfectly good iPad can be obsoleted by this, if you aren’t able to one item relative to another, yet both must be updated to work.

When apple is done supporting my 2017 iPad Pro, can I control what updates such that, if they are old vers, at least their old together?

Once Apple has stopped offering new updates to an iPad or other iOS device it can still updated to the latest supported version if you’re not already fully updated. After that, however, there are no further updates.

So..once an iPad is no longer supported, are you saying that the last set is apple-supplied apps and OS are updated with respect to each other, so that apps which require other components to be equally current to work correctly, do?

Once your iPad stops getting updates to the operating system (IOS) each installed app will update to the version that is designed for the installed operating system then it will get no further updates.
