Hi all,

I am a newbie here.

I am considering getting an iPad and perhaps using it for photos. I would like to dump some Canon CR2 raw files to an iPad then if possible be able to drag and drop them to a small external HDD?

Is there a way this can be done as I know it does not have a USB port.

Has anyone done this?

Is there a way of using the port and connecting a female USB > mini USB lead to connect an portable HDD?

Thanks

CJG

Peled,

Is there another way without jailbreaking a brand new machine?

Cheers

There are 2 wireless external hard drives out for the ipod right now. They're posted somewhere on this forum I think. Just do a quick search

Afraid it's just not something Apple want you to be able to do with your iPad. Even jail broken you will struggle to do what you described. Sorry.

Thanks guys for such rapid responses.

Now armed with this info it appears that I will not now be buying an iPad but sticking with my laptop for travel purposes

Cheers

Take a look at the two external drives I mentioned. They work amazingly well.

Also, id you are serious about connecting it to an external and want to jailbreak, it isn't as hard as it seems.

Remember with DropBox you can't stream. The files are copied to the iPad internal drive. So you don't really save space.

If you're not planning to work on the files on the iPad, why put them on it at all? Use more or larger camera media.

The options Freebird mentioned (Mobi and AirStash) won't work currently- they send data to the iPad, but you can't save from the iPad to them. The AirStash will reportedly get limited "Save To" capability later this month.

I use a Seagate Dockstar with a 1.5 tb harddrive. You can view or upload or download pics to the harddrive. Also watch videos from it
