I can anyone advise on the recent announcement by ih8snow on twitter of a 5.0 jail brake as legitimate.

The only announcements for an iOS 5 jailbreak has been about tethered jailbreaks for the iPad1. There is nothing yet for the iPad2.

Please read the stickies in the Hacking section to keep up on all the news. Trust me, any jailbreak info will be quickly posted and the entire Interwebz will know about it.
