Lost all photos from Ipad 2 after installing IOS 5

Can anyone please advise me if I can retrieve photos that where on my I pad 2 before my update to IOS 5.
I used my Mac to preform the update and chose to back it up before i started.

I cannot move some pics into folders after upgrade..getting upset with this.
