30 December I started to have problems sending mail to trash. At first I thought it was just a file problem. I have three email accounts and the problems has occurred on each. I tried clearing the system, several times, by holding the top on/off control and holding the bottom button, until I get the Apple sign on screen. This works for 5 - 10 emails and my mail freezes when I click on the trash button. Has anyone experienced this?

Hi Cecil... - before proceeding, please provide some additional information: 1) What iPad model do you own; 2) What iOS version is installed; and 3) What email accounts do you use (e.g. Yahoo, Gmail, Exchange, etc.) - answers to these questions may help others w/ more specific suggestions - Dave :)

Have you checked to see how much free storage you have left?

You should be able to see this in Settings > General > Usage.

Northstate Communication is my primary pop3 account. I have one gmail, one me.com account. IOS 7.0.4, 10.8 GB free, using iPad 3.. Outlook, Wins
8.1 home computer, Outlook.

Have you tried deleting the emails by swiping to the left?

Hi again Cecil - thanks for the information above - did this problem start after a specific situation, e.g. updating iOS, adding an extra mail account, etc.? Are you trying to sync all of these accounts, including Outlook on your Windows computer? If so, I'm assuming you are using the cloud in some fashion?

Another assumption - is Northstate Communication you're primary ISP for your home network or are you using an Exchange account for Outlook? Does the company offer an IMAP option for your incoming mail? For you webmail accounts, can you go to their browser sites and delete your mail there?

This complex of email accounts may be the potential culprit - not sure? We'll await your response to some of these questions; in the meantime, I would probably delete several of those email accounts (can be added easily later) to see if this simplifies your situation and permits deletion of your thrash - you may also want to look into changing that POP3 to an IMAP incoming account. Good luck - Dave :)

Yes. Several deleted, then the problem returned. I could do nothing but close the program.

Checking in more detail and calling my Northstate, it is IMAP and according to them configured correctly. We reviewed each account, all had the correct settings,

I did nothing to change the program, no IOS update or added any new apps. I doubled clicked on the round button to bring up all open doc's, pages, etc. swipe up to delete them all. Tar booted, worked for five emails.a

Tomorrow I will delete the gmail address and primary ISP, Northstate email account. At this stage, I did not connect to my main computer to link with ITunes. I also dragged down the page to see if any updates could be the problem.

One thing to consider, I took the plunged 30 Dec to sign up for Photoshop CS6 CC, Bridge CC, and Behance

Photoshop decided that my AT1 Mobility Radeon HD4650 did not support OpenGL 1.0. I checked spec and it state it has 3.1. I did see that the VRAM was below min requirements. This hurts big time as my Dell Studio 1747 Laptop has the graphic card integrated with the mother board. My main desktop, Dell Studio has the same card. I ordered XFX AMD Radeon 7750. Had to get PCI as power supply is only 350 W. May have to upgrade PS, as well. Without OpenGL, 3D is disable by default in Photoshop.

BTW I using Outlook straight, Office 365, no exchange.

Thanks Dave and all posting.

Hi Cecil... - well I read you last post and LOTS going on - I'll await your next reply; NOW, I don't understand the last paragraph w/ Photoshop..... but I hope this doesn't confuse your email setup? But, let us know - Dave :)

I just posted changes I had made to my home desk computer and laptop. No changes to iPad or iPhone. The funny thing is, when I tried to updated my driver for my Laptop and desk model, (both have the AT1 Radeon HD4650 graphics card, after completion it provided a menu to read the log created. When I clicked on view log, it open iTunes on my laptop and desk. Never found out the connection between the two and cannot find a way to review the log.

I managed to delete a email from some company offering 80 percent off car insurance. After that, mail is working. I only had one freeze yesterday. Thanks.

If you are using a Windows machine, check to see what extensions are assigned to what default apps. I don't remember the exact place to look. That's the most common cause for files opening in the wrong program/app.

They all seem ok. I have no problem working with any other files. Last two days, not a single problem with mail. I do think one mail had an attach virus or other dangerous files. Once I was able to delete, the problem disappeared. Thanks.

As long as it's working again. :)

I may have spoken to soon. My internet service provider says I have a problem with my iPad; however, no problems with gmail or me.com mail service. Problem is that it will work, then have problems. Yesterday I got the screen that my user I'd/password was incorrect. No changes to my account. Today I did not rec'd the error notices and got my mail. I compare my laptop, with iPad. I can send myself an email to my same ISP on laptop, rec immediately. May take several minutes for iPad or I get error notice. Sometimes I send from iPad and mail will not send, just shows sending. I am now using gmail so no problem with mail. I just have to figure it out.

The only thing my ISP says was setup up wrong was my outgoing SMTP. He said it was smtpauth.northstate.net (had iPad two years without auth). I tried this, same problem. He than said it must be on Apple's end. Such is life. Gives me something to do.

I've noticed more authentication errors (can't get mail, etc.) recently. Both on the iPad and in Mail on the Mac. They don't seem to be actually affecting my ability to receive and/or send email though.

Well, except for Gmail on the Mac, and I fixed that by deleting and re-adding the account. It was a problem with the 2-step authentication though Google.
