The iPad version of Salem Witch Trials, one of the popular Midnight Mysteries series of adventure/hidden-object games has been released to the App Store today for $9.99/Ă‚ÂŁ5.99.

The highly praised follow-up hit to the Edgar Allen Poe Conspiracy begins with the untimely death of yet another great American author, Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthorne’s ghost then approaches the player, and compels them to travel back in time to the Salem Witch Trials to uncover the true cause of the author’s death, while solving brain-teasing puzzles, interviewing the ghosts of Salem’s past, and collecting clues throughout the historic village.

Players can choose just how involved they want to get in the game. They can play the standard version using the journal to recap their progress and goals, using the silhouetting lantern and hints to assist them when they get stuck, or they can purchase the fully illustrated strategy guide to help them figure out puzzles and offer greater assistance throughout the game. There are also hint packs available to buy to increase the number of available hint ravens.

“Midnight Mysteries: Salem Witch Trials looks really amazing on the iPad, and we’re excited to elevate the quality of hidden-object adventure games available for the device. This is a game with really beautiful graphics, an intriguing story and puzzles that will make you think—it’s a natural fit for the iPad audience.”

Mark Cottam, CEO of MumboJumbo.

Some hidden-object games can be a bit boring to say the least, but this one appears to have much more to offer than the usual hidden-object gameplay, being much more of a mystery-solving and clue gathering adventure, and it looks like a good way of showing off your iPad’s graphics as well, which is always a bonus. Still a little pricey though.
