9to5 Mac reports that Netflix has updated its iOS app with the ability to recommend content to your friends via your iPhone or iPad.
The social recommendations feature only works via Facebook, and aims to be reasonably discreet and non-spammy, enabling you to link your Facebook friends list with your Netflix account, and then recommend content that you’ve found particularly enjoyable or interesting on Netflix to a specific Facebook friend.
The feature also works the other way, whereby when your friends browse Netflix they will see your recommendations.
As 9to5 Mac notes, Netflix is particularly stressing the fact that privacy and non-spamming is paramount, with the company saying “Connecting will not post to Facebook or share what you watch to your friends’ News Feed.”
Previously, recommendations were much more public, with links to all the content that you watch on Netflix being posted publicly on Facebook.
Aside from the iOS app, the new social recommend feature is also available via the Netflix website, PS3, Xbox, and various set-top boxes and smart TVs.
