New Apple iPad releases with A5X Chip

Not enough to make me upgrade from an iPad 2.

Yeah. For the folks that always have to have the newest thing this is a fun day. For those of us who want something "really new" the iPad 3 isn't really much of an update. I don't need a better camera on my tablet. Have any of you ever really used your iPad as a camera? I'm not a gamer either so the A5 won't really help me all that much - neither will the retina display. And 4G is simply not that well extended across the United States. It's still mainly only in certain major cities. So my iPad 2 will be doing me just fine for quite some time to come. I'm happy for you guys that really enjoy the newest hottest thing.

I'm feeling the same way. I really wanted it but I'm not a gamer nor a photog. 2 is sufficient for my needs. Dictation but not siri? Means they could still port to both devices. Gonna get a 4g mifi.

Heck I still own over 1400 shares of aapl from the mid 90s. I own a Ipad 1 and I'm selling 3 shares and buy two Ipads.
I'm happy enough for myself.

What I find surprising is that pre-orders still say shipping March 16th....and pre orders have been live for about 3 hours now.

jmbarker, I felt the same way about the iphone 4s. I didnt oreder the ipad2 as I thought I would wait for 3. I am tired of waiting and after an hour of pushing the refresh button I got my order through. Cant wait for the 16th to get her to play with my new toy.

No one knows at this time (and Apple, famously, never tells). We'll have to wait until someone gets one in their hands and does a tear down.

My iPhone 4s has 1024mb ram (L2 cache ) so the new iPad will have a minimum of that

Not sure if you are being serious or not but your iPhone 4s has 512mb ram. That image confirms 1mb level 2 cache.

No, it's an iPad 3rd Generation. The quad core GPU with the double density display pretty much makes it a new beast. The addition of LTE, 5 MP camera, and voice dictation are basically icing.

I took a load of video and stills on my 64gb wifi ip2 today near the shore. I enjoy the view finder being so argue. I see the point though about the camera being less important to most. I guess this is great for me then. I completed a pre order at 7:40 pm eastern time tonight and was pissed that after all the waiting I was totally unavailable to monitor the store all night for the first moments of order taking. I hope it goes through successfully.
This chip ,coupled with the camera and the retina is more than enough to upgrade from my ip2. Happy iPad day everyone

Why not save the cash, and tether an ipad2 via iphone 4s to 4g.......when it arrives.

4g is not available in the uk and most of europe....

I cant justify spending another £500 just to "upgrade"

The quality of my panasonic 14mp HD 1080p video/still camera is far superior than the new ipad.

My macbook pro and 1080p sony i7 vaio is faster than the new ipad.

A tablet is what it is...a tablet......i dont sit for hours using my tablet...i use my laptops

I dont take high def images with my ipad i i use my hd camera.


Perhaps apple should offer a trade in deal for those of us who purchased an ipad 2 in the last 2 months?

The iPhone 4s isn't truly 4g.

It sounds like you don't need to upgrade due to your lifestyle and the reason for using an iPad. But I'm sure some people will want to upgrade.

For me i think I will upgrade, but I'm in no rush. Maybe ill leave it a few months and stick with my iPad 1 for now.
For me the iPad is great, I've never owned or wanted a laptop, most of them are crap and the battery's just don't last at all. No point in a laptop you need plugged in all the time. I use my iPad and my desktop every now and then
