New From Florida

Hi everyone. My birthday is coming up and my husband agreed to buy me an iPad. I am the most technologically advanced of 98% of my friends which puts me at an above average beginner. I am totally self taught and have had a computer since about 1983. Keeping up with technology is mindboggling and I used to know a lot more than I do now. At any rate, even my friends who barely know how to turn on a computer have all gotten iPads and they are looking to me to figure out how to work them. I think it's time I got one too.
I plan on using it as a bird watching tool, for photo's and surfing the internet and who knows what else. I currently use my laptop and a GPS for navigation on long trips, so I am hoping the the iPad may replace that setup.
As my name suggests, I am from Florida and originally from New Jersey.
Still trying to decide which model iPad to buy now or to wait until the new one comes out.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Well it's been said that September is when we will see the new iPad which is not too far away now. Personally, I would wait......but then I do plan on getting it!
And it looks like you'll be wanting a Wifi plus Cellular if you want full GPS capability. You don't need an active sim for this as the GPS chip is built into the iPad itself.
