new Ipad need some info badly

we just got our Ipad2 and need some questions answered.

We do allot of trade shows and I have always been very concerned about security of our contact list while connected to WiFi, can the list be hacked via WiFi?

If you log in to a non encrypted wi-fi connection there is always the possibility that information transmitted could be compromised.
