New IPad Pro vs Old iPad pro

After Christmas I will have a new iPad Pro (2024) to replace an older version.
Can I ā€˜freezeā€™ everything on my older iPad without affecting new contents on new iPad?..ie can I lock email accounts or should I remove them?..how should I manage iCloud?,do I just disable sync?
Any actions I take on new iPad I donā€™t want to reflect on old iPadā€¦

Hi Nael - more information is needed before specific advice can be offered: 1) Do you want the 'contents' of the old iPad on your new one; are you planning to keep the old one as a 'spare' and if so can it be erased; do you want to setup the new one as a new device or like the older one; and will you be using the same email addresses on your new iPad? Thanks - Dave

Hi giradmanā€¦thanks for responseā€¦

I want to transfer all old contents to new iPad but if left like that I presume all new email messages etc on new iPad will also appear on old iPad and I donā€™t necessarily want to increase data onto old .iPad.However if new iPad faulted I would like to resurrect old iPad to use again,if possible.
I believe iCloud Drive is common to both,so presumably Iā€™d be unable to remove from old.
Iā€™d like to retain apps on old and any data associated with them, but not want any increase in data as I use new iPadā€¦ā€¦.does all this make sense?

OK Nael - first, you want to transfer your contents on the old iPad to the new one - you can accomplish that by using 'Quick Start' (if you have a newer iPadOS) or using an iCloud backup of your old device (directions HERE for both - my usual method is to use a backup when setting up a new iPad).

Second, you then want your old iPad to be 'inactive', i.e. not to add any more content, correct? Well, I suppose you could turn off iCloud, disable its email accounts (or delete them), and deactivate notifications - I've never been in that situation so hopefully others may 'chime in' with suggestions. I usually sell my old iPads online - need to follow Apple's guidelines HERE. Good luck. Dave

What you could do would be still have both iPads synched to iCloud, but limit the Apps on the old iPad. In practice this would mean deleting the Apps you do not use very often.
