Morning Chaps,
Yes I'm brand spanking new to the world of Apple...... don't panic, Google is my Friend.
Aged 60 (next month) and have years and years of experience in Windows & Android Hardware/Software but zilch knowledge with the iOS platform.
I am a heavy user on a couple of Android Forums where I pass on knowledge and tips as required.
As such I hope to gain enough knowledge here and do my bit in passing it back to any who may find it useful.

Still have to sort out my Profile and all but in the meantime here's my list:-

From: Chesterfield UK
Hobbies: Reading, Tech Gear, Watching Motor Sports Live Events, and my adorable 5yr old Granddaughter
Challenges: To walk from Lands End to the pointy bit at the top of bonnie Scotland..... that and finding the TV Remote my Granddaughter keeps hiding.

Equipment: Tablets ~ iPad 4 54GB Wifi only (should have gone for the 3G), Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 32GB, Google Nexus 7 32GB, Phone ~ Samsung Galaxy SIII

The End!

Hello and welcome! You will soon dectect that you're not the only one in the iPF that uses Android and Windows as well as iOS.
As you also will see, to work with your iPad will be very easy.

Welcome to iPF.

You are correct. As you learn more about the operation of your iOS device, you won't be able to resist the call to share your knowledge and help others.

Use the "Search" feature to locate topics that interest you.

Please take a moment to read the forum rules.

And take a camera on your trek to Lands End. We'd appreciate a photo travel log. :)

All of your other computing experience can mean that you will pick up iOS quickly, as long as you don't expect things to work like any of those other OSes. You have to be open to new ways of doing things. There are pros and cons to each OS, too, so be ready for that. iOS is different, but easy.

Many thanks for the warm welcome.
Rules and pointers read.
I do have a General Question on the Email Notification system but I note there is no section in the Forum to bring up this type of query.
If one of you could point me in the right direction I wish to ask why do we not receive Immediate Email Notifications on new replies to subscribed topics.... or have I missed something in the Settings section?

There is lots of good advice and info on here plus plenty of members all too willing to help with any problems.

Remember, search is your friend. If you can't find the answer you need and you post a question then give as much info as you can to help members help you i.e. iPad 1 or 2, etc. and iOS version and name of app if the problem is with a specific app........and please don't forget to read the forum rules http://www.ipadforums.net/forum-rules-help-info/2119-forum-rules-everybody-please-read.html

These are the hacking section rules for all you jail breakers (and would be jail breakers) http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-hacking/2892-hacking-section-rules-please-read.html

We also have an app for this forum. The link to download the app is: Discussion Forum for iPad Users for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

You can download the manual for your iPad here http://help.apple.com/ipad/6/ and here http://support.apple.com/manuals/ and in iBooks search for "iPad user guide for" and you will find free comprehensive manuals for iOS 4, 5, 6, etc.

If you have other Apple products or are interested in other Apple kit then why not join our sister forum too at http://www.appleforums.net/ and for iPhone users, come and join in the discussion over at http://www.iphoneforums.net

Thanks Gabriel for the informative graphics, how on earth I missed that one beggars belief.

Happy on all the links provided and yes at nigh on 60 I do Google and search/read extensively before requesting assistance.
Thanks for the link to the Forum App, I missed that one.

Looking forward to contributing.

Cheers leelai. I'll always take any links and use. Before I joined I spent a couple of days going through the first Tips Topic and gathered a wealth of info.
I look forward to passing any knowledge received back to the members.
