just got an ipad and i am very new to this.. when if at all will there be an untethered jailbreak for 4.2 and do you guys recommend doing the tethered one... also how hard is it revert back to regular ios after jailbreaking or put a new jailbreak on... thanks

There will eventually be one but who knows when. Tethered is really a pain and IMO not worth the hassle. As far as returning to non-jailbroken all it takes is a restore.

the only way i would actually have to plug it back into the computer is if the ipad dies or i physically turn it off by holding down the power button and slide to power off.. correct?

Yes, or everytime you load something from cydia that requires a reboot.
