Hi everyone, I'm trying to find out how to empty my Inbox as quickly as possible (i.e., not one message at a a time).
It has thousands of emails in it.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Well the quickest way to delete your emails is to hold your iPad in landscape mode, press Edit, up the top in the left hand column, you will notice your message list will move to the right and small circles will appear to the left of each message, go down the list tapping each email you want deleted and you will see Trash appear at the bottom, press this and they're gone. Not the best way but it is the quickest way!

The only other way (from the method described by leelai) is to access your e-mail account on the web server and delete the e-mails in bulk from there. That is, if you have an IMAP account. With a POP account, the emails are physically on the iPad and can only be deleted one-by-one; an IMAP account is like a "mirror" and only reflects what is on the web. Thus, the ability to delete in bulk on the web...

Or, I've see this method as described in this Apple support thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5421295?start=45&tstart=0

You must do this in the proper order:
I suggest you CLOSE out your email application and then open it.
Then...
Click edit so the emails show up with the circle to the left.
Mark all emails as read. --(THIS STEP IS EASILY FORGOTTEN IN THE PROCESS)
Select the first email by pressing the circle.
Then press and hold the Move at the bottom...DO NOT RELEASE IT!!!
While holding the Move deselect the first email.
Continue to hold the MOVE button for maybe 15 seconds.
Then release the Move Button.
Your top email (on right portion of screen) will turn gray.
Then the right portion will display a "stack" of emails.
If you have a lot of emails you have to wait some time while the process occurs.
Eventually the screen will come up to ask where you want to move them.
Select Trash and all will move there as a batch.
The Trash Folder has an option to Delete All--at the very bottom after your last email.

I've not tried it (and some people in that support thread say it doesn't work while some do). Still, maybe it'll work for you?

Other than that, the iPad doesn't have a "Delete All" button. Sorry.

Mail program used to limit number of emails downloaded. Now the sky is the limit.. Hoping next iOS update fixes this problem.
