No airplay icon on ipad 2-Help

Help i cannot for the life of me get the airplay icon on my ipad 2
Have tried rebooting the wireless modem, have home sharing turned on computer ipad and apple tv, double clicked the music - swipped it many times.
The photos from my ipad are streaming over to the apple tv.
Have wirelss on ipad on.
Any other suggestions greatly appreciate

Hi there--have you tried to see if the icon is there when you hit the home button twice and swipe all the way to the left. Can you see it where the volume controls are at?
