I picked up an iPad Air WiFi+Cellular about a month ago.

The system sounds don't seem to work. I can select them in 'Settings'.. But I never hear them. (Even with the volume set to max).. In 'Settings', I have sent mail set to 'swoosh', new mail set to 'ding' and reminder alerts set to 'chord', but nothing ever comes from the speakers when these events occur. They did work in my previous iPad.

All the other sounds work. I can play music, watch movies ect. with no problems.... Is this normal, or shoujld I go back to the Apple store for repairs?

Could you have accidentally turned on the Mute button? To check, hold the iPad in portrait mode with the Home button at the bottom and look on the right side. There's a small black button there. Move it to the opposite side/setting of where it is.

If that was it, yay. If not, let us know and we'll take another shot at it.

This is interesting.. I had the button set to lock rotation and not mute. It seems that I had the switch set to mute when I changed it over to lock rotation in 'settings'. Even though the switch now controlled the screen rotation, the sounds remained muted.

What I had to do to get the sounds working was change the switch function back to mute, then click it to the unmute position. After that I changed the function back to lock rotation... Now the switch locks and unlocks the screen and I have the system sounds..

Thanks for the help

Well, that's sure weird! :)

Regardless, I'm glad you got it sorted and you have your sounds back. And, thanks for coming back and telling us your problem got resolved. Always nice to hear back - especially the success stories. :)
