Hello - first, I'm assuming that you are on a Windows computer (i.e. control panel)?; if so, please provide the brand/model/OS of your machine. Second, did you do a 'hard reset' of the iPad using both the Sleep & Home buttons simultaneously?; if not, then give that another try.

Finally, if the above is not effective, then you might need to restart the AMDS (Apple Mobile Device Service) on your computer - check HERE for details and instructions - please post back - I've not been on a Windows computer for a year now but had to restart that service several times in the past to get my PC to recognize the iPad - good luck! Dave :)

Hi Dave. Have done hard reset on ipad, reinstalled itunes, restarted computer. No improvement altho Nero sees Ipad for uploads only. Machine is Dell Inspirin, processor Intel core i7 running Windows 8.1 64bit..
Any further suggestions? I might have to wait for one of my grandsons to visit - not joking!!! Thanks for your suggestions thus far.

BUT - did you look at my link concerning AMDS and did you follow the directions to restart the service? Dave :)

Yes. Instructions said ADMS reloads with itunes & starts automatically. Checking services says its running.

Hello again - OK, so if ADMS is working, I'm not sure how to advise further - as stated, I've been off a Windows computer for a year - hopefully, other members more familiar w/ iTunes on a PC will respond - good luck. Dave :)

Thanks again Dave. Have had some success by using an older computer with windows 7. Recognises ipad immediately but says I am synced to this computer and syncing with the old one will delete the syncs from the this computer. I might just have to do that - send everything over via dropbox and start again. Maybe this is yet another glitch with 8.1
