Offline search function possibilities

We're at the beginning stages of scoping out an iPad native app. Really stupid question probably... but is it possible (or relatively easy) to include a search function for content stored in an app... so you can search while OFFLINE? I'm completely new to the iPad world (yes, I drag my knuckles while walking).

I've seen lots of apps with searching while online (for maps and such)... but haven't really seen anything that, as an example, would search a catalog offline.
