On this day in 1485, Richard III was defeated and killed at the battle of Bosworth Field by Henry Tudor. After the battle Henry was crowned as Henry VII, founding a dynasty that would last until the death of Elizabeth I in 1603.

On this day in 1989, Pete Rose was given a lifetime ban from baseball after it was discovered that had bet on baseball and in particular the Cincinnati Reds, the team he managed at the time.

August 25 - 1932 - Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the U.S. non-stop. The trip from Los Angeles, CA to Newark, NJ, took about 19 hours.
